Heat Pumps can Heat and Cool.

No matter the season our heat pumps can handle any climate and still keep hydro bills low.

What is a heat pump and what makes them so efficient?

Heat pumps do not generate heat – they move heat from one place to another.

Unlike a furnace that creates heat, a heat pump absorbs heat energy from the outside air (even in cold temperatures) and transfers indoors. Heat pumps do not consume fuels and you do not need to refill or recharge anything. They deliver efficient and effective heating even when it reaches -30° C!

We do our best to ensure you have the most efficient components and configurations for your home.

Fresco Refrigeration will come to your home and record data regarding your homes size, layout and construction. We also estimate the installation requirements such as pipe lengths, electrical requirements, etc. Only after performing a heat load calculation can we recommend the most optimal equipment and a quotation will be provided at no charge.

Components

Components

Outdoor Unit (required for all configurations)

The outdoor unit comes in many different shapes and sizes depending on the manufacturer and heating / cooling capacity.

Mini-split (wall mounted)

The indoor unit contains a heat exchanger and a fan. The fan distributes the conditioned air throughout the different areas of the home.

Cassette (ceiling mounted)

The cassette unit is a low profile and discreet. Much of the equipment is recessed into the attic or dropped ceiling.

Central unit (ducted homes)

A central system distributes air through the ductwork in your home resulting in balanced temperatures throughout.

Configurations

Configurations

Zoned

Multiple indoor units are installed to serve more than one area. Zoned indoor units can be individually controlled. Temperatures in the rooms that are not occupied can be set back to maximize energy savings.

Central (ducted)

A central system can also be retrofitted to replace your oil or gas furnace and use existing ductwork

We live in the ideal climate for heat pumps

Here on the Gulf Islands we rarely see temperatures fall much below -5C. This makes our climate ideal for heat pumps.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will everything cost?

Fresco Refrigeration will come to your home & record data regarding your homes size, layout and construction as well as installation requirements such as pipe lengths, electrical requirements etc. After performing a heat load calculation and sizing the equipment, a quotation will be provided at no charge. Price can vary significantly for each installation depending on equipment, capacity, manufacturer, and installation requirements.

Is Fresco Refrigeration Insured?

Yes, in the unlikely event that an injury occurred during an installation or there was any damage to property. Fresco refrigeration has insurance policies in place to protect the homeowner and installer. (Policies available upon request)

What types of warranties are offered?

Each manufacturer has different warranties on their equipment. Fresco will register your equipment once installed, and we also provide our clients with 1st year free diagnostic & labour.

How long does a heat pump take to install?

Typically a heat pump system can be installed within one to two days. Installations should not be rushed and our installers pay close attention to detail and perform the work as if it were going in our own home.

How long will my heat pump last?

Heat pumps life expectancy is approximately 15-20 years. Equipment lifespan can decrease significantly if it is subjected to poor installation or improper maintenance.

Are heat pumps noisy?

The mini split systems are the quietest air conditioners you can find on the market. They have an average noise level of 32 decibels. To put that into perspective, window units and split and packaged central air conditioners have an average noise level of 50-72 decibels.
